Green power is ‘electricity that is generated from resources such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, and low impact hydro facilities. Conventional electricity generation, based on the combustion of fossil fuels, is the single largest industrial source of air pollution’ (www.epa.gov).

Green power pricing is an optional service at several utilities, allowing customers the option of purchasing all or part of a building’s energy load from renewable energy technologies. Participating customers usually pay a premium on their electric bill to cover the extra cost of the renewable energy. To date, in the USA more than 300 investor owned utilities, municipal utilities, and cooperatives have either implemented or announced plans to offer a green pricing option.
